How to Stop Being Stressed About Money - Tips to reduce financial stress, including how to enjoy life with less and budgeting and saving tips.

Money is something in our world that can stress most people out to the max. It seems to be in everything we need and want. You need it to have enough food to eat, clothes to wear and a roof over your head. You need it to have a lot of joyful experiences. You need it to fix problems. It’s no wonder that any people fight about money, stress about money, and think about money.

Financial stress can keep a person up and nearly drive a person crazy. While no amount of good thinking can make money appear when you need it, it is vital for your well-being and your budget for you to find ways to cope with financial stress. Here are some tips on how to stop feeling stress about money.

How to Stop Being Stressed About Money

Stop comparing your life to others. The biggest way to feel like we need more money and cause financial stress is to worry about what others have that you don’t. In our consumer-driven society this can be an extremely difficult thing to do. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, make a thankfulness list of the things you do have and reference it often.

Stop saying “I can’t” when it comes to money. Most of the time, you can buy things you want, it’s just a matter of finding it in your budget, tightening your belt, or saving for it. You may not get it right away, you may have to wait longer, but even some of the least well-off people can swing a weekend trip somewhere if they carefully plan for it and save for a period of time. Take a look at your priorities. Is your money going there?

Start an emergency fund. Many people think only those with extra money can afford to create an emergency fund; however, this is simply not true. Any budget can quickly build an emergency fund. By doing so, you give yourself a cushion should something come up, and you will feel less stress over money overall.

Do things instead of buy things. While some people measure success in what they have, others find happiness in what they do. Be a doer. Stress can overwhelm you and fun outings and memories last longer for stress relief than spending money on a thing. The high you get from buying something quickly goes away, but after going on an overnight trip, don’t you feel better for much longer? Spend your money on experiences instead of things to find less stress.

Create a budget if you don’t already have one. For many folks, simply writing down where the money is coming from and where it goes is enough to ease money stress and worries. This will also allow you to see where you could seal up any money leaks so you have more for things you need.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
