Frugal Wall Decor - Upcycled Hanging Vases

April showers bring May flowers and upcycled hanging vases are great wall decor to display those beautiful cuttings from your flower garden!  They are easy and affordable.  In fact, the only thing I purchased to make this project was the twine used to hang the bottles.

Wall Decor – Upcycled Hanging Vases

Supplies:

  • 4 bottles from recycling – the bottles need to have a rim
  • twine
  • 1 board 4″-6″ high and approximately 30″ long, painted to compliment your decor
  • 4 cabinet knobs (and screws to attach them to the board)
  • drill, drill bit, and screw driver bit

I came across some great finds at the local resale shop that included several cabinet knobs and cabinet color samples.  These great beaded knobs were only a few dollars for all four and the mismatched colors were perfect for what I wanted to create!  The cabinet color sample is what I have the knobs mounted to.  It was already painted and had grooves cut every 5″ or so.  Again, it was perfect for my project and what I envisioned for my wall decor!  The bottles I used were from iced coffee drinks and I really liked the size and shape.  You could also use mason jars or a variety of jars and bottles.

Directions:

Step 1

Clean the bottles and remove all labels and adhesive residue.

Step 2

Determine where you are going to place each cabinet knob.  Mark the board, drill, and attach the knobs.

Step 3

Tie the twine around the rim of each bottle.  Wrap around the rim twice and knot so that it can not come loose or slip.  Bring the twine up and tie a small bow.  The length of twine will be determined by how low you want the vases to hang.

Step 4

Attach hooks to the back of your board for mounting.  Determine where you’d like your vases to be displayed and hang the board you’ve created.

Step 5

Hang the upcycled bottle vases from each knob using the attached twine.

For just a few dollars, you have beautiful wall decor that will brighten your home all summer long!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
