Pool noodle crafts for kids, including pool noodle tic-tac-toe and pool noodle nunchucks

Let’s have some fun with pool noodles! Pool noodles are so colorful, inexpensive, and easy to come by which makes them the perfect crafting material. Pool noodles are of course great for floating on, but take a look these 4 simple pool noodle crafts for kids you can make with your extra pool noodles. In a few simple steps, you can transform an ordinary pool noodle into something extraordinary. Take a look!

4 Fun Pool Noodle Crafts for Kids

For the projects listed here, you will need an assortment of pool noodles. Look for the plain tube noodles as well as the ribbed ones that give you a flower look. Dollar stores carry both varieties as do most retail stores.

Safety Tip: When cutting the pool noodles as instructed below, it is best to use a knife. This is a portion of the craft that is best for adults since a sharp tool is involved.

Pool Noodle Sail Boats - a frugal craft for kids using pool noodles

1. Pool Noodle Sail Boats
Create your own sailboats when you slice your pool noodles into 2 inch thick slices. Glue a small triangle made of craft paper to a toothpick, then insert the toothpick into the top of your noodle. You now have a mini sailboat that can float in the pool, bathtub, or even a bowl of water.

Pool Noodle Pony - a frugal craft for kids using pool noodles

2. Pool Noodle Pony
Kids will love running around the yard on their own pool noodle pony. Take a whole pool noodle and bend the top ¼ or so of it over. Secure it in place by tying on a length of ribbon around it. This will also act as your reins for the child to hold. At the bottom of the noodle, cut off a one-inch chunk. Cut the chunk in half and glue the pieces on the “head” for ears. Add two googly eyes to each side of the head and you have an instant pony. Giddy up!

Pool Noodle Tic-Tac-Toe - a frugal craft for kids using pool noodles

3. Pool Noodle Tic Tac Toe
Get outside and enjoy a fun game of tic tac toe. Make a grid out of chalk, and use segments of pool noodles for your markers. Use two different colors or shape (or both) to distinguish players. Play as you normally would using your designated color to mark your spot.

Pool Noodle Nunchucks - a frugal craft for kids using pool noodles

4. Ninja Turtle Pool Noodle Nunchucks
Create these fun and frugal Ninja Turtle pool noodle nunchucks.  We cut 3-inch segments out of green pool noodle. We then glued a length of brown ribbon (use any ribbon you have on hand) to the insides of each segment. The end result is a pair of nunchucks kids can practice their moves with. And don’t worry, these nunchucks won’t hurt!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
