5 Fun Activities Using Paper Clips for Kids

A handful of paperclips is great for keeping your papers organized, but did you know they can also provide kids hours of entertainment? Paper clips are perfect for all sorts of games and activities when the kiddos get bored. Take a look below at 5 fun activities using paper clips to get you started. You will never look at these little pieces of metal the same way again.

5 Fun Activities Using Paper Clips

1. The Chain Game
Divide children into teams and give each one a cup of paper clips. Set a timer for a designated amount of time, and on GO the teams have to use the clips to create a chain. When the time is up, take a tape measure to see who made the longest chain. It is a fun race against the clock and gives kids a chance to bend their brains and get creative.

2. Beautiful Barrettes.
Paper clips can be turned into barrettes in s jiffy. Take some hot glue and glue small trinkets such as buttons, beads, faux flowers, or felt accents to the paper clips. Then, just slide them into the hair and you have some budget friendly beauty.

3. Fun Fishing.
Attach a paper clip to the end of a string, then tie the string to the end of a stick or ruler. Have children toss their “fishing pole” over a hanging blanket or behind a piece of furniture, where another player can clip on small goodies such as candy, paper fish, etc. Kids will love feeling the tug and seeing what is on the end of their pole!

4.  Paper Clip Math.
Have children practice their estimating with some paper clip math. Guessing the length of items in paperclips is a fun way to begin. Give the child several objects such as a shoe, a hammer, a cracker, a book, and anything else you can find. Have them guess how many paper clips long the item is, then have them use real paper clips to check their guesses. It will be fun to see how close they were!

5. Paper Clip Jewelry.
You can apply either spray or craft paint to your paper clips and turn them into fun jewelry. Just apply a few coats and string the paper clips onto some string. They will look so colorful as bracelets, necklaces, even key chains.

Paper clips are a fun and frugal way to share some quality time with your kids. Give these 5 activities with paper clips a try and let the fun begin!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
