5 Ways to Enjoy Halloween as Family - Here are some ideas for enjoying frugal Halloween family fun that are great for a wide variety of ages.

It may be getting harder to find Halloween activities to enjoy as a family. After all, not everyone likes scary haunted houses, or even trick or treating for that matter. Instead, take a look below at 5 ways to enjoy Halloween as a family. You can still have a hauntingly good time that everyone will enjoy. These ideas are great for all ages and genders, so take a peek below to get started!

5 Ways to Enjoy Halloween as Family

1. Have a monster movie night.
I’m not talking slasher flicks, but family friendly Halloween movies. Hocus Pocus, Disney’s Haunted Mansion, or Casper are great choices, and perfect for enjoying with some popcorn! Hit up the dollar store for candy before you begin as well as a few costume pieces such as fun hats and masks.

2. Have a pumpkin carving party.
Cover the table with newspaper and have a pumpkin carving party. Get out the stencils, carving tools, and paint and go to town. Make sure to take a family photo of all of your pumpkins when you are done!

3. Make some tasty seeds.
Take the seeds from your pumpkin carving and roast them into tasty snacks. You can clean them, then sprinkle with salt and pepper, garlic powder, or even cinnamon and sugar. Bake until crispy and brown, which is usually at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. You can snack on them as is, or throw them in a salad or trail mix. Here is a recipe for Pumpkin Pie Spiced Roasted Pumpkin Seeds.

4. Make your own haunted house.
Head to the dollar store to buy twinkle lights, spider webs, spooky signs, and more. Then, pick the room of your house you would really like to decorate. Make it as spooky as possible, play spooky music, and really get into the spirit. Invite neighbors and friends to come over and check it out!

5. Take treats to a local hospital.
Make up treat bags and take them to a local nursing home or hospital wing. Call first and ask if this sort of donation is acceptable before you do. Then as a family, go and pass out the treats. They are sure to be appreciated.

See how fun it can be to enjoy Halloween as a family? Give these activities a try and you are sure to have a great time.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
