DIY Fabric Flip Book for Toddlers- Check out this homemade fabric flip book for toddlers. It's durable, washable, and an awesome sensory activity for kids.

I am always looking for ways to use up old fabric scraps. When I came across a book of upholstery samples at a thrift store months back, I knew exactly one of the activities I wanted to try with them. This DIY Fabric Flip Book for Toddlers is so easy to make, and it offers a soft sensory activity for the child to enjoy. With just a few pieces of fabric, needle, and thread, you can make your own fabric flip book like the one you see here. Here is how to get started!

Materials:

  • Assorted fabric squares, any size
  • Needle and thread or sewing machine
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Since my fabric squares were samples from an old book, I didn’t have to cut them to make them even. I just tore them out and used them. If not using samples like I did and using basic scrap fabric, begin by cutting the squares into even pieces. You want the book to stack nicely, and even squares will help you do that.
  2. Once you have your even squares, you will want to figure out the order you wish to place them in. I didn’t place mine in any special order really, I just stacked them according to how the colors complimented each other.
  3. Now, you will need to create the binding. Once your pages are stacked up, take the top piece of fabric and fold it inward. You want to fold it several times toward the spine of the book. See how I did this with the top brown piece of fabric?DIY Fabric Flip Book for Toddlers
  4. Your fabric book is now ready to be ran through the sewing machine or you can stitch by hand. Create a stitch along the spine you created to hold of the pages together.DIY Fabric Flip Book for Toddlers

Snip off any extra thread and your fabric flip book for toddlers is now ready to be enjoyed! It is soft, it is durable, and it offers an awesome sensory experience for kids. They will love feeling the pages and seeing the various colors, and should the book get dirty, you can just toss it in the washing machine.

Each “page” of the book can offer a new color or pattern for the child, which at this age they are sure to find interesting. So gather your fabric scraps and see how simple it can be to make your own fabric flip book for toddlers!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
