How to Keep Your Child on a Routine This Summer- Here are some ways you can keep kids happy and less stressed this summer by maintaining a regular routine.

Summertime can be hectic for parents and children alike. It can be hard to find things to fill the day. Fortunately, keeping your children on a routine can help eliminate some of this stress. Not sure how to do this? Here are some helpful tips on How to Keep Your Child on a Routine This Summer!

How to Keep Your Child on a Routine This Summer

Summer Camp- Your children are used to spending the day at school and the evenings at home. Once summer hits, they don’t know what to do with all that time! Help keep them on a routine this summer by enrolling them in summer camp. The camp could be for the morning or all day, depending on how old your children are and what the camp is. By sending them to summer camp, you’re giving them a constructive way to spend their time and keeping them on a routine.

Reading Time- This summer, try implementing a reading block with your daily schedule. This reading block should be at the same time each day so that your kids know what to expect. Make reading time fun by building a reading fort or creating a cozy book nook for your kids to spend time relaxing with a favorite book. Reading is an important time during the school year and should be equally as important this summer.

Don’t Forget Chores- Your children probably don’t want to hear this, but chores are an important part of keeping your kids on a routine this summer. Just like they have chores during the school year, they should also have daily and weekly chores this summer. This will help keep your home tidy while giving your kids some stability each day.

Enforce Bedtime- Even though it’s summer, don’t let your children stay up late at night and sleep in each morning. This can be a difficult rule to enforce, but by keeping their bedtime routine the same your kids will have less of an adjustment when the school year starts again. Plus, they won’t be grumpy from lack of sleep!

Get Active- Summer days can feel long if there isn’t enough going on. This summer, fill your days by getting active and staying on a routine at the same time. Set aside a few days a week to have a family gym class and use that period of time to keep everyone moving. This will help your kids burn off some extra energy and will give your family some time to bond.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
