7 Ways to Enjoy a Simpler Summer with your family this year.

Use these 7 ways to enjoy a simpler summer with your family to reduce your stress and avoid burnout.

7 Ways to Enjoy a Simpler Summer with Your Family- Busy summer schedules can be stressful. Avoid burnout with these 7 tips for simplifying your summer.

Does the arrival of summer make you a tad nervous? Are you thinking about all of the yard work, cookouts, summer sports, and other summer responsibilities that come with it? The short summer months can make us feel like we need to pack a ton into a small amount of time, which can no doubt lead to stress. If you want to avoid summer burnout, simplifying your summer is the way to go. Take a look below at 7 Ways to Enjoy a Simpler Summer so you can make the most of the summer months without losing your sanity!

7 Ways to Enjoy a Simpler Summer

1. Give yourself one free day per week.

Allow yourself at least one day per week where you have nothing planned. DO NOT commit to do anything on this day and instead use it to relax and unwind with family. Watch a movie, enjoy your yard, or take a nap. Let yourself have one day without a schedule to abide to.

2. Grow a garden.

Growing a simple garden will help you get active and get outdoors. It can also offer a peaceful getaway when life gets crazy. Plus, it will keep healthy and vitamin rich foods right at your fingertips, saving you a trip to a busy and hectic supermarket.

3. Dine alfresco.

The nice weather makes summer perfect for dining alfresco. Take your dinner outdoors and keep it simple. Get out of the hot kitchen and instead enjoy fresh salads, lemonade, and other easy to make and even easier to enjoy meals.

4. Take advantage of night time.

During the summer, night time can be magical. Head outside to look at the stars, listen for owls, watch the fireflies, and enjoy all of the entertainment the night has to offer. It doesn’t cost a thing and is a great way to wind down the day.

5. Enjoy free local events and attractions.

Instead of booking trips, camps, and vacations take advantage of the freebies around town. Enjoy free concerts and festivals, sporting events, and classes. Vacation Bible School is a great alternative to a summer day camp and usually has more reasonable hours. There are so many free events offered in the summer so make note and be sure to take advantage of them.

6. Don’t over commit.

Try not to commit to more than a few activities per week. You don’t need to plan something every single moment of every single day. A few activities a week is sufficient, then you can enjoy the rest of your time at home and with your family. Not having a rigid schedule gives you more freedom and creates less stress.

7. Encourage kids to be creative.

Encourage kids to play creatively so you don’t need to entertain them every hour of the day. Have plenty of hands on toys ready so they can easily find what they need and aren’t coming to you asking to go somewhere. Teaching them to play creatively will keep them busy and takes some burden of entertaining off of you.

Are you ready to enjoy a stress free summer? Give these tips for enjoying a simpler summer a try and see how helpful they can be.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
