5 Tips for a Stress-Free Summer with Kids, including activities to do with kids during the summer and how to keep kids entertained when school is out.

Summer is all about school-free fun for children, but as parents, we may be feeling more stress than normal. There is so much going on during the season that you don’t want to turn down any of it. Read on to learn how you can enjoy the summer without it leaving you stressed out at the end of the day.

5 Tips to a Stress-Free Summer With Kids

Plan fun activities for your kids. Since your children will not have school to occupy their time, summer is the perfect opportunity to take them to the zoo, park, or other fun locations. Play-dates or days at friend’s houses are also a good idea to combat the boredom some kids experience on school vacation – and put less stress on you to entertain them!

Avoid planning too much. Though you want your child’s summer to be fun, saying yes to every event or filling your family’s schedule with tons of obligations isn’t the way to go. Be sure to plan lots of lazy days at home for yourself and the kids. It’s good for everyone to unwind every now and then, and the rest will reduce the stress that summer vacation can bring.

Don’t forget the “mommy” time. This is every important to help keep your summer stress levels to a minimum. We all love our children, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to do something for yourself. Schedule childcare or perhaps even an overnight at Grandma’s so that you can enjoy time alone, get a pedicure, or hang out with other adults.

Rely on summer stress relievers. There are many fun activities you can do with (or without) your children that will help to relieve stress. Gardening is a perfect example, and it will give you a beautiful yard or delicious foods to eat. Taking a morning walk is another great idea – it gets everyone out of the house and keeps you and the kids active too.

Consider a mini-staycation. If everyone is getting a little cranky about being at home, a staycation can help! You don’t need to drive far to get away for a couple days. Find things to do in your city that your kids love or have yet to experience. Book a hotel so you don’t have to worry about household things during your relaxing down time.

The trick to a stress-free summer is a family that has fun without doing too much. A good balance of relaxation and entertainment is key so that Mom isn’t going crazy!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
