Soothing Homemade Baby Lotion- This DIY baby lotion is a gentle and natural alternative to store-bought bath products. It's also quite inexpensive to make.

If  you are using or considering items like cloth diapers and homemade diaper cream for your little one, you may consider creating all of your baby products at home using essential oils and other natural ingredients. Not only do you save money by making your own bath products, but the fact that the ingredients are much better for you and your baby will sway you as well. One of my favorite things to do with my babies after their baths is to rub them down with sweet scented lotion. The store-bought bottles come loaded with alcohol, artificial color, fragrance, and so many chemicals it’s scary!  My solution was to come up with a safer alternative that still smelled baby fresh. I think this Soothing Homemade Baby Lotion comes pretty close and leaves their skin soft and moisturized.

Soothing Homemade Baby Lotion

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • 1 tsp. vitamin E
  • 2-3 drops lavender essential oil

Directions:

1. Place coconut oil and shea butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently until completely melted.

Soothing Homemade Baby Lotion mixing

2. Remove from heat and stir in aloe vera, vitamin E, and Lavender essential oil until combined.

3. Transfer to metal bowl from stand mixer and place in refrigerator until chilled and top just begins to firm up.

Soothing Homemade Baby Lotion whipping

4. Whip using mixer on high speed until the volume is doubled.

5. Transfer to airtight container.

To use: Scoop out a small amount with your fingertips and massage gently onto baby’s skin.

I am super excited to try this but am wondering what the shelf life is. My baby is not due for 5 more months and I don’t want to make it to early if the shelf life is not long enough. Thanks for sharing.

Does this have a creamy texture, similar to store bought lotion? I’ve tried different recipes and lotion bard, but I don’t like the greasy, oily feeling they leave

Thankyou Jody! I have been looking for a natural lotion for my sensitive skin. Can’t wait to make it! Just started making some natural skincare and shampoo etc so this is just what I needed. God Bless. Darcy

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
