As the weather becomes colder I crave comfort foods that can warm me from the inside out.
It can get bone-chilling cold in the high desert in the winter. People think of the desert as a warm place, but we often drop down to -7 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. We have horses, so we can’t hide out in our warm house. We have to feed them, water them, groom them, and clean their pens. The worst part is watering the horses because afterwards we have to drain the hoses and inevitably in the process we end up getting wet despite wearing water-proof snow clothes. Extreme cold is bearable, but add even a few drops of water to the equation and it quickly becomes uncomfortably cold!
Once we come in from feeding the horses in the evenings, I like to warm us all up with a mug of hot soup. Serving soup in a mug means you can hold it in your hands and warm up your hands while you sip the soup.
Here is a collection of soup recipes and chowder recipes that will warm your belly on chilly evenings. You can use the arrows to scan through the images in the collection above to see soup recipes on Foodie.com or you can click on the links below to be taken to a specific soup or chowder recipe.
