hot apple cider tea in a cup with a cinnamon stick

I love tea and apple cider, so this Hot Apple Cider Tea recipe is the perfect combination of both drinks.  It’s a great way to use black tea and your favorite apple cider to create a delicious new hot drink that everyone will enjoy for breakfast or as a warm treat after playing outside in the cold.

I love making my own apple cider, but if you don’t have time for that you can use any brand of apple cider available in your local grocery store.  This hot apple cider tea recipe calls for black tea specifically, but you could easily use any tea you have on hand.  The flavor won’t be identical, but it will still be delicious. I have made this with Cinnamon Tea bags and Chai Tea bags. Ginger tea bags would also work in this recipe.

This hot apple cider tea recipe is a great choice to add to a slow cooker and let simmer on warm for a few hours while you host a party, craft night or even if you just want something hot and tasty ready when you come in from playing with the kids outside in the cold! You can double the recipe for a large crowd.  if you want to be fancy, you can add a dollop of whipped cream or an apple chip to the side of the mug to make it look like a specialty drink for your friends and family to enjoy!

Hot Apple Cider Tea Recipe

I usually use unsweetened apple cider in this recipe. If you only have sweetened apple cider on hand, reduce or leave out the sugar. Those who take their tea sweeter, can always add sugar or honey to their cup.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups unsweetened apple cider
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/4 cup sugar or honey
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 2 – 4 inch cinnamon sticks
  • 5 black tea bags

Directions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the apple cider, water, and sugar.
  2. Cook over a medium-high flame until it begins to boil.
  3. Add cinnamon sticks and cloves to the boiling liquid. Then continue cooking over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and place the tea bags into the mixture.  Allow the tea to steep for 2 – 5 minutes.
  5. Squeeze the liquid out of the tea bags and remove them.
  6. Remove the cinnamon sticks and cloves before serving.
  7. You can strain it before serving if you wish, but it isn’t necessary.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
