Put several pieces of wax paper underneath the cake before you begin frosting. (I have made my pieces wider than necessary, because I plan on using them to wrap up leftover pieces of cake). When you are done frosting the cake, pull the wax paper out, and serve!

Lori-
I think you ridea of using parchment is a good one. What a wonderful way to get a little extra use our of something before it is tossed!

Rebecca- I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

I learned to use paper towel for this from my mom, so that is what I have always done. I like this idea so much better, though, since I so rarely buy paper towels anymore (I really hate buying something just to throw away – so wasteful). I wonder if I could reuse the parchment that lined the cake pan instead of a new piece of wax paper. I guess I'll have to try it out tomorrow to find out 🙂
BTW, your cake looks delicious
