Smoothies are my favorite breakfast food. It is not a big surprise that I have looked rather longingly at the Bullet and other smoothie makers. I had been making smoothies in my blender, but I liked the take and go ease of the smoothie makers. As you can see in the picture above, cupboard space is at a premium, so even when the prices came down, I was reluctant to purchase one. Then I remembered that I use my blender as a Make Do Food Processor:
Why not try using a blender as a Make Do Bullet?
Place smoothie ingredients in a quart jar with a regular mouth and attach the blender base (including blade and gasket) to the jar:
Place the jar upside down on the blender, and pulse on high until all the ingredients are fully combined:
Remove the blender attachment and drink the smoothie directly from the jar; no need to dirty another glass. If I want to take my smoothie to go, I just put the lid on it and I am set:
Just in case you are dying to know, my smoothie contains 1 cup of spinach leaves (you can’t taste them in the final product), 2 tablespoons of flax seeds, 1/2 cup yogurt, 1/2 cup pomegranate juice and 1/2 cup each of: frozen raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries.
I am quite content with my Make Do Bullet! It has the convenience that I was looking for without costing me any money or taking up any space.

Do you make do or do without?

This makes me wonder if I can do this with my blender – I am going to try it tomorrow! I do use my immersion blender to make smoothies but it takes a bit of patience.

I have a magic bullet (from my niece Aleah!) and it's not _all that_ if you're not making a smoothie. I like the idea of using a jar with my blender.

That is a great idea! I have to grab my blender and see if this will work!

Melissa,
I have never tried using my emersion blender with frozen fruits before. My emersion blender gets tons of use, blending soups, applesauce and jams. And I love how little room it takes up.
Vickie, Too bad about the Bullet! I bet you will find a great blender at a garage sale.
Annie, It sounds like you have a great machine! I also use my blender to grind grains. In fact, I am planning on sharing how to make oat flour in my blender tomorrow.

I think that's a neat idea, but my blender isn't made that way. It's an attachment to my Bosch mixer and goes together in an entirely different way. BUT…it's really powerful and can do double duty as a grain grinder with small amounts of whole grains. I can grind wheat and make pancake batter out of it all in the same container, which is nice.

Oh man I gave away my blender when I got my magic bullet as a gift. We have very limited space here. Of course two and half years later the magic bullet has quit. I'll be looking for a new blender at a yard sale this spring and remember this trick!

Wow, that's a great idea! I admire your resourcefulness!
A few months ago I bought an immersion blender. I'd been looking at them, but I wasn't about to pay $50+. When I saw one on sale for about $10, I didn't hesitate. I find that I use it much more than I ever used my blender, mostly because the cleanup is so quick and easy.
(It's a better morning. I hope and pray that that trend continues, but the adjustment is still in progress.)
