Patriotic Star Cookies

These Patriotic Star Cookies are an amazing addition to 4th of July celebrations.

Patriotic Star Cookies- Here's a festive dessert recipe for July 4th! These sugar cookies are decorated in red, white, and blue buttercream and fondant.

Looking for  a creative dessert idea for your 4th of July party? These Patriotic Star Cookies with fondant stars in red and blue makes for a fun twist for the 4th of July! This is a basic sugar cookie recipe, topped with vanilla buttercream frosting. The white frosting makes a wonderful canvas for the red and blue fondant stars.

Patriotic Star Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 10 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 egg and 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • vanilla frosting (or your own recipe)
  • Red Fondant and Blue Fondant
  • Large & tiny star cookie cutters
  • Decorating bag
  • 1 large star cookie cutter to cut out the cookies
  • 1 small star cookie cutter to cut out the fondant

1. Preheat your oven to 350° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Large mixing bowl beat together your butter and sugar.

3. Mix in your eggs and vanilla.

4. Mix in your flour, baking soda, and salt until you have a thick dough.

5. Form the dough into a ball with your hands and roll out on a piece of parchment paper with a rolling pin.

6. Use your large star cookie-cutter to cut out as many stars as you can.

7. Bake your cookies for 8 to 10 minutes and let cool.

8. Scoop your frosting into a decorating bag and pipe the frosting onto your cookie.

9. Roll out your fondant onto a piece of parchment paper and use your tiny star cookie-cutter to cut out several stars.

10. Cut off parts of the star to use on the edges of your cookie.

11. Place your stars onto your cookie and enjoy.

Make-Ahead Tip: You can make these cookies a day or two in advance and store them in a sealed container to prevent them from drying out.
