It’s no secret that we love Oreo cookies, and these Patriotic White Chocolate Covered Oreos are a favorite for the upcoming holidays.  We love sharing a patriotic dessert for Memorial Day, 4th of July, or even just because.  These chocolate-covered Oreos are an easy treat that everyone loves to see on the table!

Making this patriotic-themed Oreos recipe with kids is a great way to talk to them about what patriotism is. Whether you use it as a fun homeschooling opportunity, or you simply want to remind your children about the sacrifices made by our military for our protection, fixing a batch of these fun treats is a great idea!

Patriotic White Chocolate Covered Oreos Recipe

You can decorate the Oreo truffles for any holiday, but if you want to make Patriotic Cherry-Stuffed Oreo Truffles, you can use Red, White, and Blue Jimmies, Red, White, and Blue Non-Pariels, Red, White, and Blue Sprinkles, and Red, White, and Blue Mini Stars in both patriotic desserts.

Ingredients: 

  • 12 double-stuffed Oreos
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cup Wilton red candy melts
  • 1 cup Wilton white candy melts
  • 1 cup Wilton royal blue candy melts
  • Red, white, and blue Sprinkles, Non-Pariels, and Jimmies
  • 3 Oreo cookie molds (6 on each sheet)

Directions: 

  1. Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Set aside.
  2.  In a double boiler pan, melt 1 tablespoon solid shortening.
  3. Add white chocolate melts to the shortening and stir until completely melted.
  4. Pour 2 T of the melted chocolate into each mold to cover the bottom entirely.
  5. Place an Oreo into each mold, on top of the melted chocolate.
  6. Using a Tablespoon, pour additional melted chocolate on top of the Oreo until the mold is full. Set aside remaining melted chocolate for later.Patriotic White Chocolate Covered Oreos- cover Oreos with chocolatepopular pin for chocolate covered oreos for the 4th of July
  7. Refrigerate for one hour.
  8.  Repeat steps 2-7 using 1 T each solid shortening and the red and blue chocolate melts. (You will have 6 red, 6 white and 6 blue chocolate covered Oreos.)
  9. Remove candy molds from the refrigerator after one hour.
  10. Gently press down on the molds to lift the cookies out onto the baking sheet.
  11. Reheat any remaining melted chocolate (most likely it has hardened) in the microwave for 30 seconds. Using a spoon, drizzle the chocolate over the Oreos in a different color.   12. Sprinkle each cookie with your choice of sprinkles, nonpareils, and jimmies.

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
