Frugal Patriotic Table Decor Ideas {Memorial Day & 4th of July}

It’s almost summer and I’m excited! I love the warm weather, flip flops and being able to grill and entertain outside!

And with summer comes two great reasons to entertain, eat and be merry: Memorial Day and 4th of July.

While I believe that we should be thankful and patriotic all year long, this is a great time to celebrate the birth of our Country and remember those who fought and still fight to maintain our freedom.

So what are your plans this summer when it comes to Memorial Day and the Fourth? Do you plan to entertain people in your backyard?

Well.. if your answer is yes, then I hope I can help you pull of  the perfect Table Decor Idea for your party. And while you’re reading this, be sure to check out all of the yummy Memorial Day and Fourth of July Recipes and desserts here at Premeditated Leftovers.

I love entertaining. At my house I am responsible for pulling off the decor ideas, and my husband does all of the cooking. It’s the perfect combination of teamwork. Each year I try to come up with a different and unique idea that you’re not going to find anywhere else. I watch HGTV, spend hours on Pinterest and flip through decor magazines for inspiration.

Then I head out shopping. Sometimes I still have no idea what I’m going to create until I am at the store. I try to stay within a budget and sometimes have a limited amount of stores that have the decorations I need to pull of an idea.

My favorite stomping grounds these days are:

  • Hobby Lobby
  • The Dollar Tree
  • Amazon
  • Kohls
  • Target
  • Party City
  • Pier 1
  • Michaels

Recently I stopped in the Dollar Tree. If you’ve read some of my recent posts, you may have been just as surprised as me to find out that my local Dollar Tree has been producing great ideas for holiday decorations. And they didn’t disappoint (again). I was able to load up on a ton of great Memorial Day/4th of July related decorations and crafts.

So you’re probably like.. hurry up and show me what you did 🙂

With entertaining outside and having kids, they need to have their own table. So this first post is about creating the perfect Patriotic Table Decor idea for kids. And guess what? It’s still frugal aka budget-friendly!

The Dollar Tree had Uncle Sam type hats (each for $1) that just goes perfect with any type of Patriotic theme. Or to wear just for fun. But fair warning- you’re asking for glitter to get everywhere! The kids can have fun wearing these hats while chomping on their hot dogs and other Patriotic related food.

Supplies in a basket- I thought this would be a fun and easy way to control all of the things that happen at kids tables. Instead of having their napkins on the ground, plates flying across the yard or one kid taking the other kid’s fork… put it all in a basket.

The Dollar Tree also had these baskets for $1.00 each. Just stick everything that you want to have at the kids table in one place. Then when they get done, they just put everything back in the basket. Whoever is in charge of cleaning off the table- just dump the contents of the basket into the trash. Boom- you’re done.

For the centerpiece, it’s important to keep it simple and kid-friendly. I used blue, white and red tissue paper garland to line the center of the table. For a smaller table, you will have enough to drape off each sides.

The Dollar Tree had USA Styrofoam Sticks with red and blue ribbons tied around them. You can score a pack of 4 for $1.00. Sticking them in white milk jugs helps give this a relaxed, backyard feel.

Once the kids are done eating, they can each take a stick and get creative with them! Hopefully it doesn’t end up like my boys- using them as swords. These are also perfect to to take to the Memorial Day Parade!

Another great fun feature for this frugal memorial day/4th of July kids related table decor is paper patriotic lanterns.

The Dollar Tree also carried these for $1.00 each. Or you can find similar ones here on Amazon. Once the kids are done eating dinner, you can light the lanterns (just takes batteries) and let the kids have fun tossing them back and forth.

Then once you put all of it together, you will get a fun and frugal table decor idea that will be perfect for Holiday entertaining this summer.

4th of July Table Decor Ideas

A fun patriotic theme tablecloth (again $1 from the Dollar Tree) graces this frugal table decor idea!

Keep in mind that this Table Decor Idea can be used for adults too! This would be a fun idea for you and your friends during this Patriotic season. Your friends will love have so much fun with the hats and glasses.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
