Grab your cast iron skillet and prepare to be blown away by how delicious this Homemade Pecan Spiced Cinnamon Rolls Recipe is!

pecan spiced cinnamon roll recipe

Technically these are pumpkin pie spice sweet rolls but cinnamon is the main ingredient in pumpkin pie spice so I am still calling these “cinnamon rolls”.  This recipe for Pecan Spiced Cinnamon Rolls Recipe baked in a cast iron pan is the stuff lazy Saturday mornings are made of, not that I wouldn’t whip them up and enjoy them on a Tuesday either.

Pecans, loads of delicious spices, and ooey gooey vanilla icing on top? Yes please, and make it a double!

Pecan Spiced Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

Makes 16 Cinnamon Rolls

Dough Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoon yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
  • 4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice blend
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 – 5 cups all-purpose flour

Filling Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped

Glaze Ingredients:

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 6 – 8 tablespoons milk
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Combine yeast and warm water in a bowl and stir until yeast is completely dissolved.  Let this stand for 5 minutes.
  2. Combine milk, egg, butter, and corn syrup into a mixing bowl.  Stir to combine.
  3. Stir in the spice blend, salt, and one cup of flour.
  4. Add the yeast mixture to the mixing bowl and stir until it’s well blended.
  5. Add 3 cups of flour, one cup at a time, and mix very well after each cup is added.
  6. Move your dough to a lightly floured surface to blend it further in the next step.
  7. You’ll want to add as much of the remaining cup of flour as is needed as you knead the dough on the floured surface.  The dough should be slightly sticky when it’s finished. You’ll know it’s finished kneading when the surface is smooth and only slightly tacky to the touch.
  8. Place the dough in an oiled bowl (or your mixing bowl that’s been rinsed and oiled).  Cover with plastic wrap to keep it moist and then cover the plastic wrap with a towel.
  9. Let your dough rise until doubled in volume.  This could take as much as 60 to 90 minutes depending on the temperature of your home.homemade cinnamon rolls rising
  10. The dough is finished rising when it has doubled in size and a light touch into the dough makes a dent that remains and doesn’t spring back.  Now you should divide your dough in half.
  11. Place one half of the dough on a lightly floured rolling surface. Place the remaining dough half portion back into the bowl and cover again with plastic wrap until later.
  12. Roll out your dough until it’s a nice flat rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.  Use 2 tablespoons of the butter to spread it over the surface of the flattened dough.  Now sprinkle 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 2 teaspoons of the spice blend, and 1/2 cup pecans over the butter.pecan cinnamon roll recipe
  13. Roll the dough loosely to a long cylinder.
  14. Slice into 8 roll sections and place into a greased pan.  Cover with plastic and a clean towel.pecan cinnamon roll recipe log
  15. Repeat the rolling and filling process with the remaining half portion of dough.
  16. Allow both pans to rise for 45 minutes or until doubled in size. This could take slightly less time if your home is very warm.cinnamon roll recipe in cast iron skillet
  17. Near the end of the rising time, heat the oven to 350 degrees.
  18. When the oven is heated, remove the plastic and towel.  Bake rolls for 20 minutes or until they’re lightly golden on top.
  19. Mix together your powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract for a quick and easy glaze. Top the warm spiced sweet rolls with the glaze and serve warm.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
