Easy Homemade Fudge Sauce
![]()
Do you see a trend emerging? You can’t have an ice-cream bar with just caramel sauce and whipped cream; you need hot fudge sauce too!
In less time than it takes to drive to the store and back, I can make Fudge Sauce from scratch. Making it from scratch also allows me complete control over the ingredients, insuring that my kids are not getting a side of chemicals and High Fructose Corn Syrup with their dessert.
Yield: ~ 1 cup
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 – 12 minutes
Ingredients:
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup heavy whipping cream or evaporated milk
2 tablespoons water
pinch of salt
Directions:
In a medium sauce pan, melt butter and chocolate chips.
Add cream, sugar, water and salt and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and boil over a low flame for 9 minutes stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Serve while still warm over ice-cream.
Store unused fudge sauce in the refrigerator. Reheat the sauce in the microwave on high power for 30 – 50 seconds.
ETA: I made a double batch before I went to visit my dad in Kansas and when I returned home the 1/2 cup of leftover fudge sauce was a little dry and gritty. I heated it for 30 seconds, then stirred in 2 teaspoons of milk, and heated it for another 20 seconds (until it justed started to boil). I stirred it one more time and it was lovely again.
I am going to be putting together a compilation of ice-cream, frozen yogurt, gelato, and sorbet recipes. If you have a recipe that you would like to share, leave a link in the comments or email me at aleasleftovers(at)sbcglobal(dot)net.

Hahaha Alea, when I saw the title to this post I thought "oh, alea what are you doing to me? Another ice cream topping???" I love the trend!
Great minds think alike. I made hot fudge sauce this week, too. I had some uneaten truffles in a jar and thought they would be very tastey on my icecream. My recipe was very similar but it would have been fun to find your post and use your recipe. Thanks for sharing.
I just want to say right now that I am in L.O.V.E. with this sauce!! Miriam@The Pioneer Cookbook
This is a great idea! I don't have any ice cream/etc recipes, but over at mycookinggallery.blogspot.com, she has a ton of different ones that I flip through often.
My kids are all over this one. thanks, alea!

This chocolate sauce sounds SO good – and so much better for you than store bought! I bet it tastes better too! Thank you for sharing it with the Hearth and Soul blog hop.
I love that this delicious sauce can be made from pantry staples! Thanks for sharing with the Hearth n Soul.
This is a good idea. Sounds easy enough. Maybe I could make it more like milk chocolate if I added more cream. Home made is always better! Nancy
I am loving the new blog look! FANTASTIC! This fudge sauce and the other caramel ones are amazing. I made something similar for my dad for father’s day but added some beer to it- it was so good.I am trying your next time though!
I think I would just sit down and eat it with a spoon, as I don’t like ice cream-but I LOVE hot fudge!!
