My husband received an ice-cream maker for Father’s Day in 2000. Why? Because the kids were sure that my husband wanted an ice-cream maker. A red one. And it turned out that they were right; my husband loves making ice-cream. He often insists on bringing it to our friends parties so everyone can eat real ice-cream. He has even brought it on vacation. Seriously. When I say he is our official ice-cream maker, I really mean he is the self-appointed official ice-cream maker.

Have you made your own ice-cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet before? It really isn’t that difficult and the difference in flavor will amaze you! Here are a few recipes that I’ve found to get you started:

Nice collection of recipes Alea! I’ve pinned it. I’m sure I’ll be referring to it throughout the summer months.

What a great resource, Alea! Your timing is perfect too, as I’m about to dust off my ice cream maker for the summer 🙂

This frozen dessert round up is very tasty and awesome. I don’t have any ice cream maker, looks like it is the time to get one.

Oh I was so sad because we don’t have a ice cream maker and then I saw the link to make it without the machine. Making ice cream tonight! Thanks

Yeah! Did you see all the variations she has for making ice-cream without an ice-cream maker? They all sound good!

Thanks, Alea, for linking to my favorites…I linked back to you, but since my traffic is “small town” compared to your “big-city interstate,” you may not see a lot coming from my neighborhood! 😉

We made homemade ice cream two weeks in a row, so I think this week I need to take a break…kind of counter productive to all the work I’m doing with no bread or coffee with creamer! I will be checking back someday, though, and trying some of your recipes…caramel sauce #1, I think!

What a lovely round up! I shall spend a quite bit of time looking at them all! BTW The Toffee Ice Cream is actually Frozen Yogurt Cream but it tastes the same anyway or just about. Thank you for including my desserts and thank you for making it easy to view everyone else’s!

I moved it to the frozen yogurt section. I find frozen yogurts so delicious that I can rarely distinguish them from ice-creams when tasting the end product.

I can’t either but sometimes the honey taste can come through if you don’t use a mild one. All the frozen yogurt recipes I post can be made with yogurt made from half Double Cream and half Whole Milk for a richer flavour. I’m thinking of making the raspberry ripple frozen yogurt with half and half for our family birthday weekend (most of us have birthdays in July and early August!).

It sounds like wonderful combinations, but I really don’t like ice cream. I know, I know-I love milk, butter, cheese-but not ice cream nor yogurt.

We let our guests skip the ice-cream and eat hot fudge sauce with a spoon. 🙂

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
