It is hard to stick to a diet during the holiday season. Try these 5 ways to stick to your holiday diet plan and curb holiday snacking.

Are the approaching holidays making you worry about your waistline? If so, you might be wondering how to curb holiday snacking. If you aren’t sure where to begin, take a look below at 5 ways to curb holiday snacking and have you looking your best this season. You don’t have to suffer or starve yourself, you just need to keep these handy tips in mind. Here is how you can get started!

5 Ways to Curb Holiday Snacking and Stick to a Holiday Diet Plan

1. Stay full on fiber.
Be sure to enjoy a fiber filled diet so you can feel full longer. Add a fiber supplement to your diet, or be sure to eat fiber rich foods. By eating fiber, you will feel full longer, causing you to snack less or overindulge during meal times. Some great examples are whole grain breads, bran muffins, broccoli, and raisins.

2. Don’t skip breakfast.
When you skip breakfast, you tend to overeat at your other meals. Instead, start each day off with healthy breakfast. A whole grain cereal, skim milk, and fruit is the perfect start.

3. Drink plenty of water.
Many times we feel the urge to snack when really we are dehydrated. Be sure to drink 8 glasses of water each day so you stay hydrated, snack less, and feel fuller longer.

4. Remove the temptation.
Don’t bring temptation into your house. If people bring over snacks and sides for parties, quickly remove what isn’t eaten. Avoid snack food aisles during the holiday season and don’t even bring sweet treats or unhealthy items into the house. Do an inventory of the food you do have and remove any that isn’t conducive to a healthy diet.

5. Find an alternative to snacking.
When you feel the urge to snack, find an alternative. Go for a run, chat with a friend, make a craft, or take a warm bath. Distract yourself from the thought of food and do something else to occupy yourself instead.

Keeping in plan with your weight loss goals can be challenging during the holiday season. This season, give these 5 tips to avoid holiday snacking a try!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
