Indoor exercise for when you are stuck at home

Here are some indoor workout ideas for when you are stuck indoors.

Exercises that you can do indoors to get a full-body workout. Great fitness ideas for getting a workout when the weather is bad or you can't get to a gym.

Losing weight and getting in shape… it’s not easy, is it? It seems like no matter what we do, something comes up and gets in our way. But, don’t use bad weather or a closed gym as an excuse to skip your workout! We have enough excuses in life – let’s get our calorie burn on with these indoor workout ideas for when the weather is bad and you are stuck inside.

Indoor Workout Ideas

Bodyweight Exercises

Lunges, squats, and deadlifts (if you have weights) are all bodyweight exercises that will literally kick your butt! Try variations of each exercise to mix things up. I personally love plie squats with calf raises. You combine several moves into one, and it becomes a full-body workout!

Cardio

High knees, jump squats, jump lunges or walking lunges, jumping jacks, and even jumping rope! These are all great ways to get your heart rate into the fat-burning zone without being outside.

Electronics

Crank up the CD player, or turn on the Wii or Xbox and get your groove on! You can even watch workout videos on Youtube. Surely you have a few exercise DVDs sitting around collecting dust – pop one in the DVD player and get to work! No excuses!

Weights

If you have barbell weights, you can do a ton of moves! My favorites for arms are tricep extensions, hammer curls, and overhead presses. For legs, I love to do lunges while holding weights. That way, you’re doing two moves at once and burning more calories.

Learn Something New

Belly dancing and kickboxing are also full-body workouts that engage your core and get your heart rate up. Getting creative with your exercise routine, and mixing it up, is the best way to keep indoor exercise FUN! The last thing you want to be is stuck inside and bored!

What’s your favorite way to workout while you’re stuck at home?

My favorite indoor workouts are Wii Fit Plus or doing a yoga dvd.

I use The Core Program (from the book by Peggy Brill) and an old Reebok Slide board.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
