intentional frugal living

Happiness is a place between too little and too much. -Finnish Proverb

In Your Money or Your Life this place is called enough. “Enough is a wide and stable plateau. It is a place of alertness, creativity, and freedom”.

Most of us start our adult lives with too little and work to acquire the things we need. This is a completely normal phase and I realize that many of you are still in the process of creating your nest. The problem is that it is easy in our society to get stuck in acquisition mode and not recognize the signs that we are at a place of enough. One of the interesting discoveries that I have made is that enough truly is a happy place. It was completely unexpected but makes sense: If you are not wasting energy focusing on what you don’t have and wasting time trying to acquire those things, then you are more likely to notice all that you do have.

I don’t believe in being frugal just for frugality’s sake; instead, we are frugal with a purpose. Our budget reflects our values and priorities. We are frugal in some areas so that we can splurge in others. We are committed to remaining debt free and building our savings, so we regularly evaluate our wants vs. our needs.

I share a glimpse into our Frugal Lifestyle so that you can see how we live fully while spending less. I also share Deals and Money Saving Tips so you can see how I stretch our budget. Some of the frugal things we do involve reusing, recycling and repurposing. Frugality and an Eco-Friendly Lifestyle can and do overlap.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
