7 Items of Clothing for Every Gardener's Wardrobe- These clothes and accessories will help you work safely, comfortably, and effectively while gardening.

Are you preparing for the gardening season and want to be sure you have all your supplies ready to go? If you are a gardener on a mission and want to be sure you are dressed practically and purposefully when you take on your garden, you should check out the helpful list below. You will find 7 Items of Clothing for Every Gardener’s Wardrobe that can help you garden safely, comfortably, and effectively. Here is what you need to know, and which items you should be stocking your closet with.

7 Items of Clothing for Every Gardeners’s Wardrobe

1. Brimmed Hat
The damage that the sun can do to your skin is no joke. Protect your skin by using a wide brimmed hat whenever you are out gardening. This will help shade your face which not only keeps you cooler, but protects from sun damage as well.

2. Boots
You might think that boots are just for spring, but they are great for use in your summer garden as well. Put them on whenever you trek out to the garden to protect yourself from mud, vines, prickly plants, pests and more. A simple pair of rain boots does the trick and they can be easily washed with a damp cloth between uses.

3. Knee Pads
The time you spend kneeling down in your garden can be painful if you don’t protect yourself. Wearing knee pads is a great way to protect your knees and avoid injury and aches. You can find these at most sporting goods stores or even most gardening centers.

4. Durable/Textured Gloves
The right pair of gloves is important so you can weed, dig, shovel, spade, prune, and all of the other tasks you need to do while still protecting your hands. Choose a durable pair (thick, multi-layer, quality fabric) which also has texturing on it so you can grip materials easily while still protecting your fingers.

5. Utility Apron
Aprons aren’t just for the kitchen. Choose an apron with pockets that can hold supplies while you garden. It doesn’t have to be anything frilly; there are plenty of plain wrap around aprons that have multiple pockets for storage. The apron can also protect your clothing from dirt and mud, and is perfect for wiping your hands on should they become dirty.

6. Coveralls
Coveralls might seem cliche, but they are so practical in the garden! They are comfortable, and denim is quite durable and protects the skin. Coveralls are no fuss and stay in place, so no matter how much you are moving around you don’t need to worry about pants slipping down or bunching up.

7. Lightweight Jacket
Although the summer months are warm, if you tend to your garden in the morning or evening hours you will want a lightweight jacket. This can also help protect from wind and sun, as well as pests that may wish to make a meal out of you! Consider keeping a light jacket near your door so you can grab for it before you head out to the garden.

As you can see, choosing the right clothing items when you will be spending an excessive amount of time in the garden is important. Give these 7 items your consideration so you can be sure you are the most prepared gardener around.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
