10 Reasons To Drop Cable and Satellite - Whether you are trying to save money or make more time for family activities, dropping cable may be a good choice.

We are always looking for great ways to save money in our household budget, and these 10 Reasons To Drop Cable and Satellite are not only budget friendly but great for your family in general. Television is such a huge part of our lives, but it isn’t as necessary as we think. With so many other great ways to entertain ourselves, without the huge expense of cable or satellite, you don’t have to worry when you cut these out of your household budget.

10 Reasons To Drop Cable and Satellite

The bigger expense. Let’s face it and accept that the biggest reason to drop cable and satellite today is the cost. It is rare to find a plan with either a cable or satellite company that doesn’t cost at minimum $50 per month. With taxes, fees, equipment rental and he added channels or movies you wish to watch it is easy to spend $100-$150 per month just on cable or satellite. That money can be put into savings to create a $500-$1000 savings over the course of a single year.

You don’t view the bulk of the channels. When you scroll through the channel guide you will find yourself going to the same channels over and over again. You are paying for a multitude of channels that you rarely if ever watch. Why pay for something you don’t use?

The big time suck that distracts you. Whether you work from home or outside the home, the television is one distraction that we all fall into. Turning it on as background noise will inevitably draw you in to watch something and suck away prime time to spend working, with your family, exercising, or doing fun projects around your home.

It gets used as an excuse to not do healthier things. Getting caught up watching, “your show” can be a reason to not go to the gym, not play games with your kids, or even order take out instead of cooking a fresh healthy meal from scratch.

Gives you more time for hobbies. Do you have hobbies like crafting, robotics, or sewing that often get put aside in the evenings or on weekends to watch television instead? These reasons to drop cable or satellite will help you to make your hobbies a focus more often.

Distracts students from homework and assignments. Kids get use to having the television on all the time. That can easily become a habit that gets turned on when they get home from school. Television then distracts them from homework and other class assignments that need to be taken care of.

Gives you more time together as a family. Removing the television distraction can help you to focus on quality family time. That means you spend time with each other talking, playing games, doing family projects, reading or learning together.

Lack of distraction will allow you to watch what is really important to you. Without the channel surfing habit that wastes so much time, you can easily focus on the shows, documentaries, and movies that are important to you. Streaming with Hulu, Netflix or Amazon can give you access to the things that you really want to watch instead of just watching what happens to be on.

Encourages your children to use their imaginations for entertainment. Not being able to just click the television on for mindless shows means your kids have to use their imagination for entertainment. Yes, video games and movies may still be there, but typically you will find them doing things like playing with toys, drawing, doing crafts, or heading outside to play instead.

Makes your family room truly about family. Your kids crave your attention, and when evenings together are all about sitting in front of the television, you aren’t really paying attention to them. When you drop cable and satellite today, you give your family room a break to truly be about family and not just television.

These reasons to drop cable and satellite are going to change your mind about that hefty bill you pay each month. Making your family and even your health the primary focus in your evenings instead of the television can be truly life changing.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
