20 Frugal Uses for Epsom Salt including ways to use Epsom salt in the garden and in the home, natural health, and beauty uses for Epsom salt.

There are many amazing uses for Epsom salts. If you don’t know what it is, it is not an actual salt at all. It is a mineral that is a combination between sulfate and magnesium. These two compounds can really add a great benefit to your home, garden, and health routines. Even better, it is not an expensive item to purchase. Here are 20 amazing uses for Epsom salt to get you started!

20 Frugal Uses for Epsom Salt

1. Soothe tired feet with a soak of Epsom salt and hot or warm water. Just add about a half a cup to a gallon of water and soak for 15-20 minutes.

2. Try relieving bronchial upset by making an Epsom salt steam. Add 1 cup of Epsom salt to a gallon of water, place a towel over your head and the hot water and gently breathe in the steam.

3. Create a foot scrub by combining some Epsom salt with a tablespoon of coconut oil. Rub on calluses and it will help relieve them.

4. Utilize Epsom salt to help remove hard water stains. Just create a paste with it and water and leave it to sit for a while. The sulfates in it will break down the hard water.

5. Clean your washing machine with it. Just fill the basin with hot water and add a cup of Epsom salt and allow your washer to cycle through.

6. Make your houseplants happy with it. Just mix about a handful of Epsom salt with very warm water and allow it to dissolve. Water your plants with this mixture once a month. You plants will grow faster and stronger.

7. Give your hair more body by mixing it with your conditioner. Make a simple mask by adding equal parts of  conditioner and Epsom salt and apply. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and rinse.

8. If you have grout, try making this excellent cleaner for it. Mix equal parts liquid dish soap with Epsom salt and scrubbing. You can even keep any leftover cleaner for later if you store it in an airtight container.

9. Bug bites making you itch? Try mixing a tablespoon or two of Epsom salt with warm water, allowing it to dissolve and spraying it on the affected area.

10. If you have swelling from an injury, try making a cold compress with a little bit of Epsom salt and cool water. Dip a rag into the mixture and lay it on the swollen area for relief.

11. Revitalize your skin by mixing Epsom salt with a facial cleaner. Just crush the salt into a finer powder and add equal parts to your favorite cleanser and use to get rid of dead skin.

12. Create your own bath soak by adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil (I suggest something soothing like lavender or something refreshing like peppermint or citrus) to some Epsom salts.

13. Epsom salt can help relieve foot odor. Just soak your feet in a tub of warm water mixed with a 1/2 cup of Epsom salt after hitting the gym and your foot odor problems can be a thing of the past.

14. Just like with houseplants, your plants in the garden would love the boost. Add a sprinkling of Epsom salt when you plant and about once a month near your vegetables and they will grow very strong and happy.

15. Speaking of being in the garden, add a trail of Epsom salt to areas that you want to discourage slugs. They will stay far away from it.

16. It is said that if you are suffering from constipation that drinking some Epsom salt water can help. All you need is just a 1/2 teaspoon. Make sure to check with your doctor first before you proceed, however.

17. Lull your little ones to sleep by adding a little bit of Epsom salt to their nightly bath time. It will relax them and create a nice soothing transition to bed.

18. Get rid of weeds by mixing Epsom salt, dish soap and vinegar together. Just place in a spray bottle and aim for the roots.

19. Remember this at the holidays! You can actually mix equal parts Epsom salt and flat beer to sponge onto windows for that “frost” effect!

20. Get rid of nighttime invaders with it! Raccoons hate the taste of Epsom salt so if you sprinkle some near and in your garbage can they will stay away.

Had a hysterectomy and developed a hematoma near the incision. It has been horribly painful. My surgeon has decided since it had not absorbed in 5 months I need to have another surgical procedure to drain it. I went home and started soaking in Epsom salt bath every night for a week. It’s now gone. I will be canceling that procedure. Having fibromyalgia I have always loved Epsom salt. Now I am elated with it!!!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
