Does your front porch need a face lift? Updating your front door is one of the quickest and easiest ways to do just that.

7 Ways to Update Your Front Door- These simple updates will freshen the look of your front door. As a result, your entire house will look and feel like new.

A few simple changes to your front door can make your whole house feel and look like new with little monetary investments on your part. If you are ready to update the look of your home, take a look below at 7 Ways to Update Your Front Door on a dime.

7 Ways to Update Your Front Door

1. Change out the hardware. A new doorknob, door knocker, and hinges can make all the difference on an old door. Many times these parts can rust and begin to look rundown. Feel free to replace them with shinier, more modern or classic pieces. This is a quick project you can typically do in just a few hours.

2. Add a fresh coat of paint. If you don’t have the budget for a whole new door, consider giving the current one a coat of paint. To do this, sand the surface, clean it well, and apply a primer. Once dry you can apply two coats in a color of your choice. Be sure to use exterior paint so it can withstand the elements.

3. Add a screen or storm door. There are so many screen and storm doors on the market these days that are not only purposeful but pretty! Consider adding one of these layers to your current door. It can dress up the whole front of the house and also offer some additional protection.

4. Hang a wreath. Sounds simple, right? But you would be amazed at how much a decorative wreath can change the look of your front door. You can always change the wreath out between seasons, so it will feel like the look is always changing. Go for something large, bold, and with bright colors. A peel and stick metallic hook is an easy way to hang it while also adding a decorative touch.

5. Add side planters. Fresh greenery can make any door pop. Add some planters to each side of the door and fill them with in season flowers or boxwood bushes. If fresh isn’t convenient for you, there are plenty of faux options available. Some bright greenery on each side of your door looks welcoming and also highlights the space.

6. Don’t forget the lighting. Properly lighting up your door and entrance is a great way to make your home pop. Exterior lighting on each side of the door or hanging above the door is pretty and practical. If you already have lighting in these areas, you can always update it or give it a good cleaning.

7. Don’t forget the welcome mat. The welcome mat is an extension of the front door. Find a mat that goes along with the color, make, and finish of the door. When you add it to the base of the door it will feel like an extension and really make the entrance grand.

Updating your front door and entrance area so it is fresh yet functional can be quite easy. Give these tips for updating your front door a try and you are sure to make your neighbors take note.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
