Do you often find yourself shopping into a fabric buying frenzy? Do you dream about filling your cart up with fabric bolts and have more fabric than you know what to do with? With so many cute and colorful patterns out there, it is no wonder so many people find themselves addicted to fabric. But how can you buy the fabric you love without going broke? Luckily, there are ways to satisfy your fabric tooth while still saving some cash. Take a look below at 7 Ways to Save Money on Fabric so you can continue to build your stash!
7 Ways to Save Money on Fabric
1. Shop on eBay. eBay features fabric bolts at wholesale prices, and you can buy by the yard or even by the quarter. You will find thousands of prints to choose from, and many offer free shipping. Check out eBay for discount, wholesale fabric for your crafting needs.
2. Find the remnants section. At most craft stores there is a remnant section with the small pieces leftover after the majority of the bolt is sold. You might also find fabric that a customer had cut and changed their mind about. Ask an employee where discount remnants can be found and check it out each time you go. Chances are it changes daily. I typically find big enough pieces in this section to use for napkins, chair covers, and DIY heat packs.
3. Use your digital coupons. Most craft stores offer a digital coupon which you can pull up on your smart phone. Just download their app or pull up their website for some quick savings. This way, you can score as much as 40% and there is no need to clip coupons.
4. Use online coupon codes. Check for online coupon codes to fabric stores such as Spoonflower.com or Fabric.com. You can use a site such as RetailMeNot.com and do a search for coupons to find something you can use on your next online purchase. Offers will vary, but just enter your code at checkout and enjoy the savings.
5. Be patient. Craft stores tend to roll out “seasonal prints” for each season and holiday. If you see something you like, don’t buy it right away, especially if you are using it for a non-seasonal piece. It will get marked down dramatically as the season wears on and by the end of the season you can usually get it for just a buck or two a yard.
6. Check thrift store linen racks. When you browse thrift stores, check out the linen racks where sheets and pillowcases are hung. Many times people donate unused cuts of fabric, and employees tend to hang them here. Look closely as sometimes it is hard to tell if it is a cut of fabric or a sheet. I have found some amazing, unused pieces of fabric this way!
7. Don’t rule out “cutters.” A cutter is a less than perfect piece of fabric, perfect for cutting up and using for craft projects. If you see a thrift store tablecloth with holes, or a garage sale piece of fabric with stains, don’t rule it out as a cutter. If you can snag it for a song grab it! It will be perfect for smaller sewing projects such as doll clothes, pot holders, bookmarks, heat packs, and more! Do an eBay search for “cutter tablecloths” and you will be amazed at all of the cheap pieces you can pull up!
