7 Ways to Let Go of Clutter- If you want to live a clutter-free life, take a look at these 7 helpful tips. Letting go is easier when you have a good plan.

The beginning of a new year is a wonderful time to release some clutter from your life. If you are wondering how you can live a clutter free life, take a look below at these helpful tips. Below you will find 7 Ways to Let Go of Clutter in your life, giving you the time and energy to focus on more important things. Letting go isn’t as hard as you may think, you just need a solid plan. Here is how you can get started.

7 Ways to Let Go of Clutter

1. Tackle your house room by room
Don’t be overwhelmed by your clutter. Instead, tackle your home room by room. Do not move on to the next room until you have finished the previous room. This way, you can focus your attention on one space at a time and not get overwhelmed or burned out.

2. Divide and conquer
Now, start dividing up your clutter. Create boxes to sort your items in. You should have three boxes total: a keep box, a donate box, and a trash box. When sorting, try to fit your clutter into one of these categories. Give yourself just a few seconds to consider each item. If you need more than that, then donate it because you don’t need it!

3. Think about helping others
When digging through the clutter, think about how it might help others. That coat you love but never wear? Think about a young mom who might be able to benefit from it. Those toys your kids never touch? Think about the local homeless shelter that may have children who can use them. Let this urge to do good fuel you to get rid of items you no longer need.

4. Remember what you are gaining
Remind yourself as you sort your items about what you are gaining. By eliminating your collection of knick knacks, you now have 30 minutes of free time that you would have otherwise spent dusting them each week. Whenever you eliminate clutter, you gain more time that can be used to spend with family or your favorite hobby.

5. Set goals
As you go through each room, set goals for yourself. For example, your goal could be to comb through one room a day, or one room per week. Your goals might also include donating more than you keep, or tossing items that need fixing which you know you will never do. Set goals and stick to them.

6. Bring the family on board
When clearing away clutter, get the family to help. Ask them to go through their own belongings and start sorting. Set expectations for how much you want them to try to toss or donate. At the same time, encourage them to NOT bring new clutter into the home.

7. Remember: Stuff is just that, stuff!
Are you holding onto items because you value the person who gave them to you? Maybe they remind you of a special time? By donating those items, you are not giving up your memories. You are simply making room for new memories to be made. Try to remind yourself this so you can part with your stuff a little easier.

Give these 7 Ways to Let Go of Clutter a try! The New Year is the perfect time to implement these ideas and enjoy a clutter-free space.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
