If you want to try a fitness class, there's no need to spend a lot of money. Here are some free ways to take a fitness class.

Fitness classes are a great way to socialize, learn how to do certain exercises and motivate you to keep up the good work. They can also be great for learning something new or building on what you already know. There are all kinds of fitness classes but some popular ones include Zumba, Yoga, Barre, and P-90x. The best thing about fitness classes is they are super easy to access even if you don’t have the money to pay for them. Check out these super easy and free ways to take a fitness class and get up and get moving!

Free Ways to Take a Fitness Class

Join a gym that offers free classes – While not totally free, if you are looking for a gym membership, and fitness classes are something you really want to do, don’t get scammed into paying for them at your gym. Instead, look for a gym that offers them for free as most do nowadays. There is no need to pay for something that you are already going to have included in your membership. Just ask about member perks and get a schedule.

Get free passes to them by showing interest in a gym membership– Some gyms will even try to lure you in with free passes to the classes when they want you to join. Do some calling around and you might even be lucky enough to score many free passes! This is actually not only a great way to get into classes for free, but also try out a few and find ones that you really enjoy before diving in.

Check with community centers or churches – Many churches and public community centers offer free classes to anyone who wants to come! These are often taught by certified instructors and great for beginners. I find them by either calling around or even looking on community bulletin boards in places like grocery stores and libraries.

Check Meetup.com for group classes in your area – People use Meetup to form groups and clubs based on common interests, including fitness. You may be able to find free workout opportunities through local Meetup groups.

Look on social media– Most gyms are on Facebook, Instagram, and/or Twitter these days. Look at the gyms in your area and follow them on social media. I often find free passes to win or just have to anyone who claims them this way. Also, it’s a great way to stay abreast of any free class announcements. One gym I used to go to had a free public class every Saturday and they only announced it on Facebook.

Follow free classes at home with YouTube– If doing classes in a group is not your thing, don’t worry! You can do tons of free classes on YouTube! There are so many instructors on there that have free full classes on their channels. Just look for “Free (name of the class) Classes” and you are sure to find many. When you find a favorite instructor, you can follow and subscribe to their channel and you will get notified when they post new classes.

Go with a friend who has a gym membership – Most gyms offer a limited number of free guest passes so members can invite friends. It’s been my experience that pretty much no one is using these so I bet if you asked a friend, they would love to take you!

I live in New York City and its Parks and Recreation Department offers year round Free Fitness Classes as part of its Shape Up New York program. I have been taking a weekly Yoga class that definitely would cost at $50!!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
