How to Make Your Commute More Energy Efficient - Here are some ways to make your commute more energy efficient that can also save you money.

One of the biggest ways that we are hurting our environment is with the use of cars. Since we have become more aware of the impact of exhaust and fumes on our environment, we put together this list of simple ways to How to Make Your Commute More Energy Efficient. Not only will you be saving money, you’ll be doing your part to be more energy efficient by not using so much of our natural resources to fuel your vehicle.

How to Make Your Commute More Energy Efficient

Upgrade to a hybrid vehicle. This is an investment up front, but over the course of 5 years the amount of money saved on gasoline will typically more than make up for the higher cost of the car. Crunch the numbers of various hybrid or electric vehicles on the market, and you’ll often find that they are a much better investment than your traditional gas only vehicle.

Carpool with spouse, neighbor or friends. Carpooling is great for going to and from work while not paying as much in gas or wear and tear on your vehicle. It also works great for things like taking kids to and from school, extra curricular activities or even church activities. Another great way to cut back on vehicle expenses and use is to schedule your errands to coincide with other things that will take you to areas of town at the same time. You can even do this with your friends and neighbors so you are both saving both time and money.

Walk or ride your bike. Nothing is more energy efficient and green than walking or riding your bike. If you live in the city, you can easily hop on your bike, or simply head out on foot to do things like go to the park, make a quick trip to the store or even head to the gym. Encouraging your kids to walk more and drive less is also setting a great standard for them to follow throughout their lives.

Use public transportation. For many who live in the city, public transportation is a great option. While it still has an effect on the environment, you may find that the low cost of a pass and the many areas it will take you can be much more frugal and energy efficient than always driving your own vehicle. While not always available in smaller towns, most cities and metropolitan areas have at least a bus route you can look into using.

When you begin thinking about going green, you have to think about everything in your life that could potentially be harming not only the environment, but your own body. While not always the biggest concern, you can easily make your commute energy efficient and in turn protect and improve the environment around you.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
