Here are 7 Ways To Make Your Home Energy Efficient ranging from small adjustments you can make today to some larger investments.

Making your home Eco-Friendly and Green includes little things like these 7 Ways To Make Your Home Energy Efficient. While you work toward making your home green, you’ll want to make some significant changes in how you manage your home. This includes some major upgrades, as well as little minor details.

7 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME ENERGY EFFICIENT

Upgrade insulation. One of the pricier upgrades to your home can be upgrading insulation. However, making an investment now can create significant savings on energy expenses over a short period of time. There are even various programs from some electric companies that will pay for part or all of these upgrades. Adding better insulation to an older home or poorly insulated home can be a great way to make your home energy efficient.

Turn off electronics. Simply turning off and unplugging electronics when not in use can help save a significant amount of energy. Not only will this shave your utility bills, it will help you to extend the life of those items.

Change to water saving faucets & toilets. This little investment is a great way to prevent your home from becoming a water hog. Little changes in faucets, shower heads and even toilets can quickly give you a lower utility bill and conserve water. For areas that have a lot of drought issues, this is really important.

Add solar panels. Yes, this is a huge investment, but it can be a great way to change the overall energy efficiency in your home. Even one solar panel can help handle basic energy needs in your home. This not only saves you financially, but also helps you use a clean energy source that won’t harm the environment.

Change your thermostat settings. This one simple change can make a significant difference in how much electricity or gas you use. Setting your thermostats a bit lower in winter and a bit higher in summer is easy to adjust to.

Seal windows and doors. One of the quickest ways to make your home energy efficient is to make sure you go through your home and seal all windows and doors. You can even take the time to check your attic or possible leaks, holes and areas that could be letting air in. Weather stripping, caulk or upgraded better fitting doors and windows can give your home a better seal and save electricity.

Use natural heating and air conditioning sources. Instead of running your gas or electric heat in the winter months, use wood burning fireplaces and stoves. In the summer, use fans to circulate air in your home. Opening windows to create a breeze can be used in those temperatures that are getting warm, but not yet hot.

These steps are easy for any family to follow. While you may not be able to make the larger investments right away, you can plan for and make them happen at some point. Making your home energy efficient is often more about the little things than the large investments.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
