If you are into sewing or crafts and are looking for ways to save money on your hobby, try these awesome tips on how to save money at Jo-Ann Fabrics.

It used to be that Jo-Ann Fabrics really was just a fabric store, but as other craft stores have extended their merchandise and what they carry, Jo-Ann’s has followed suit. With that, you can find lots of new craft supplies, home decor and even craft classes. If Jo-Ann’s is one of your favorite places to shop, you will love the tips included in this post on how to save money at Jo-Ann Fabrics.

How to Save Money at Jo-Ann Fabrics

Sign up for a discount if you qualify for one. Jo-Ann’s offers discount membership for teachers, homeschoolers, students, non-profits and there is even a program called Jo-Anne VIP for resellers, professional interior designers and for members of crafting or sewing organizations and clubs. For all of the discount programs, you need proof, but it’s well worth it if you shop them often.  Check out all the discount program’s requirements on the website.

Join the email list. This way, you will be “in the know” when sales are happening in-store and online and you will also receive coupons that can be used for shopping at your local store or for discounts on the website as well.

Grab the circular as soon as you walk in the store. Take a quick look at it as it may have some things on sale that you are hoping to get while there anyway. There are often very valuable coupons in the flyers as well and clerks at the register won’t always remind you of them.

Know when to stock up. Jo-Ann’s usually has something on sale or huge discount at any given time. This is the time to stock up on these items if it is something you use frequently such as quilt batting or yarn. The sales usually go seasonally, so make sure you stock up on enough until it circles back again.

Look at the back of aisles in the rear if the store. Often, you will find heavily discounted items in this area. Also, locate your local store’s remnants bin and check it each time you are there. You never know when you will find a treasure that will work perfectly for a project you have in mind.

Shop right after holidays. Just like with most stores, Jo-Ann’s runs after holiday sales to clear the shelves of Christmas, Easter, St Patrick’s day and other holiday’s goodies. You can get stuff that can be used next year or stuff that is loosely related to the holiday and can be used anytime such as some colored gift-bags, ribbons, tablecloths and decorations.

Hit up Black Friday at Jo-Ann’s. While this is still far off from today’s date. it’s something to keep in mind for next time. Jo-Ann’s typically runs huge sales on that weekend. It’s a great time to stock up.

Follow Jo-Ann’s on social media. They sometimes release coupons just for fans and followers and they announce large sales such as the Coupon Commotion even they have a couple times a year. Coupon Commotion is an event that extra coupons are released and many times, you can stack coupons. The coupons available are often depending on location so make sure to call ahead before you go to the store to avoid disappointment.

The holidays related to our nation are usually BIG sale holidays – Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Veteran’s Day. If you are military or dependent military, they also give an extra 25% off entire purchase (regular, sale or clearance price), though I can’t for certain that this will continue now they give a military discount (10%) on a daily basis.

Joann’s now has a text program where you get different coupons than what are on the app, sent straight to your phone! I use the texts, the app, and have coupons sent via snail mail. And watch for their big sales. Especially when they have half off their red tag fabric. That’s half off the original price, then half off that!

At least in our town, they will match competitor coupons as long as not the same % as a Joann coupon you are also using. Example would be allowing a 40% Michael’s with a 30% off Joann but not allowing if they were both 40% off.

Their text for coupons is great too!

I am kind of frustrated with their homeschool policy for the teacher discount though. They require a membership ID or “current documentation” which is not anything our state requires or provides. In IL you just homeschool, there is no paperwork proving you do. So there wasn’t anything that meets their requirement & I even spoke to their corporate office about it. 🙁

I have the Joanns phone app and it has the coupons am sale ads listed. Sometimes the coupons differ what is offered on the website, mailed ads or in-store flyer. They also offer a military discount, which I really appreciate.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
