5 Simple DIY Facial Masks and Cleansers

Having a spa day is a blast, but when pinching pennies, the spa is usually out of the question. The next best thing? A spa day at home!

These recipes are amazing because you know what will be going in them and all the ingredients are found easily in a supermarket or organic, whole foods store.  What a perfect way to spend time with “the girls” or your teenager!

5 Simple DIY Facial Masks and Cleansers

The following are 5 easy recipes that use foods and other low cost things you have at home to help you create a yummy spa day.

Dry Skin Mask:

1 Banana, mashed

¼ tsp pure honey

Simply mix the ingredients together until they form a paste. Gently rub on your face and neck. Allow it to dry (about 15 minutes) and peel it off. It should leave your face smooth and full of moisture. You can do this treatment about once a week.

Skin Tightening Mask:

2 tsp honey

2 egg whites

2 tsp rip avocado, mashed.

Mix together and pour off any extra liquid. You just need the paste. Gently rub it on your face and neck. It is important to rub on the neck as that is a place many people see aging first, as the neck does not have as many oil glands as the rest of the face. Rinse off with warm water. You can do this treatment once every 2 weeks.

Strawberry Fun Cleanser

6 Large Strawberries

¼ cup White Vinegar

1 Tsp Plain Yogurt

Mix together and gently apply to face. The seeds will help exfoliate your skin and it smells really yummy! Wash off when you are done cleansing. You can do this as often as you want, but once a week is ideal.

Sensitive Skin Mask

1 Tbsp Instant Oatmeal

3 Drops Rose oil

1 ½ Tsp very ripe avocado

1 tsp Honey

1 drop Lavender oil

½ tsp Pure Coconut Oil

Mix all the ingredients to create a paste. Gently apply to your face and lave on until dry. Wash off with warm water. This mask will help exfoliate and hydrate at the same time,

Oily Skin Formula Cleanser

1 ½ tbsp Witch hazel

½ tsp plain unflavored yogurt

1 ¼ pure Aloe Vera juice

1 tbsp instant oatmeal

Blend into a smooth paste with a food processor. Add more oatmeal if you need to, to make a paste. Apply as you would a cleanser and wash off with warm water. You can do this treatment once a week.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
