Homemade Produce Wash

I like the idea of using a produce wash on my fruits and veggies, but for some reason I felt odd about buying a commercially prepared produce wash. I am already careful about what I buy and what I use on the produce that I grow, so I wanted complete control over what I used to wash my fruits and veggies too. Plus, those little bottles of produce wash would add up fast for someone who has 7 fruit trees in the backyard!

Make Your Own Produce Wash

I thought that making my own produce wash would be difficult, but it turned out to be quite easy. I also thought it might take special items, but it turns out I had all the items on hand to make my friend Katie’s  easy Homemade Organic Fruit and Vegetable Wash. It just uses 3 ingredients: lemon juice, vinegar, and water. You can find out how to make her DIY Natural Fruit and Vegetable Wash here.

Do you like to use essential oils? I did some searching and found a recipe for making your own produce wash at Keeper of the Home that includes essential oils. If you would like to make your own produce wash using essential oils instead of fresh lemon juice, check out Rachel’s Homemade Lemon Citrus Produce Wash.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
