Tips for Getting Rid of Cockroaches Without Pesticides, including homemade roach bait, natural roach repellents, and cleaning tips.Even if you don’t want to admit it, these tips for ridding your house Of cockroaches without pesticides are likely to come in handy. No matter how hard you think you have worked, everyone will see a random cockroach from time to time. There are some factors that make them more common, but they are a pest that is tough to avoid. However, we have come up with some easy ways to naturally get rid of cockroaches.

Tips for Getting Rid of Cockroaches Without Pesticides

Boric acid roach bait mix: Use a safer homemade roach bait that is made by mixing equal parts powdered sugar, flour, and boric acid together. Sprinkle in backs of cabinets, under the sink, behind appliances, and in dark and moist areas cockroaches usually gather. Be careful when working with boric acid as it isn’t safe to inhale. I recommend measuring it while using gloves and wearing a mask. It definitely shouldn’t be used in a home where children would have access to the mixture. You can use it around the outside of your home, around crawl spaces, in an attic, or in the basement as well.

Baking soda & powdered sugar: A safer alternative to the one including boric acid is to use equal parts baking soda and powdered sugar. This can safely be sprinkled throughout your home without as much fear regarding children or pets ingesting it.

Keep your home clean and dry. Empty trash cans regularly. Vacuum crumbs up regularly. Make sure there are no leaks under sinks, around toilets, or near bathtubs. This way you can deprive the cockroach of what it wants. That includes keeping food stored safely where cockroaches aren’t smelling it and trying to get to it.

Crushed bay leaf: This herb that is often found in your pantry is a great deterrent. Crush a few bay leaves and sprinkle around areas you know cockroaches are gravitating toward. They hate the smell of bay leaves and will avoid these areas.

Sprinkle catnip around your home. If you don’t have cats in the home, this is a great solution. Catnip is toxic to roaches and a great way to get rid of them, but your cats will go crazy trying to find it when there is a lot around the home.

These tips for ridding yourself of cockroaches without pesticides are all fairly easy and simple. Not only will they keep your house free of roaches, they are cost effective and simple to implement.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
