These Tips for a Fun-Filled Staycation will help you enjoy a vacation with your family without the need for expensive hotels or travel costs.

Tips for a Fun-Filled Staycation- Be a tourist in your town with these fun staycation ideas. They're budget-friendly ways to enjoy time with your family.

Going on a vacation is a great way to relax and unwind with your family. When you go on a vacation, you get the opportunity to spend time with your family without any distractions. This can help you get to know more about what’s going on in their lives, bringing you closer as a family unit. However, if a vacation to a tropical place isn’t practical for your family, you can arrange to have a staycation without sacrificing your family time. Here are some great Tips for a Fun-Filled Staycation.

Tips for a Fun-Filled Staycation

Go Sightseeing- In order to have a fun-filled staycation, you might want to spend a day or two sightseeing. You would be surprised how fun this can be. Even if you’ve driven past a certain sight every day on your way to work, there is something special about taking time to slow down and see those local landmarks up close. Take a day or two to walk downtown or go through a local park, not rushing to get to the next place.

Camp in the Backyard- If you want to shake things up during your staycation, try camping outside. Even if you only go as far as your backyard, your family will love having a different place to lay their heads at night and you’ll love not paying for a hotel room. You can use this camping time to sit around a small fire, roasting marshmallows, and telling stories.

Take a Scavenger Hunt- One of the perks of staying at home for your vacation is that you are familiar with many of the sights and sounds of the area. Take advantage of this and arrange a scavenger hunt throughout your city or town. Leave clues in meaningful locations for your family, leading them to a special prize at the end such as a family picnic in the park. This fun-filled staycation idea is sure to give your family treasured memories.

Un-Plug- One of the mistakes we make on vacation is that we stay attached to our phone or laptop. Don’t make this mistake during your staycation. Instead, put all of your electronics away for the day and refuse to check in on work or social media. By unplugging yourself from the modern world you’ll be able to spend more quality time with your family, making your staycation better than ever.

Have you ever taken a staycation with your family? What was the best part of your staycation?

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
