The sun may not be blazing, but the winter can still be pretty harsh on your skin. Use these 6 Simple Winter Skin Care Tips to maintain a healthy glow.

As we approach the winter months there are a ton of things to think about regarding beauty and fashion.  The love of boots, scarves, warm sweaters, and that perfect pea coat are all on our minds.  There is one thing that should be at the top of the list too, and that is winter skin care.  During the summer months we find ourselves slathered in sunscreen, lotion, and enjoying the sun on our skin.  Winter months bring about different weather and a completely new approach to having healthy skin.  These 6 Simple Winter Skin Care Tips will help you to keep that summer glow all winter long!

6 Simple Winter Skin Care Tips

Don’t skip sunscreen. Just because the temperatures have dropped and the sun isn’t shining as brightly doesn’t mean you need to forget your daily sunscreen.  Use sunscreen on any exposed skin every day regardless of the time of year or weather.  For your face, find a quality dual purpose sunscreen and moisturizer to cut down on the number of items you are currently using.  Coconut oil is a great natural moisturizer that offers it’s own minimal SPF protection.  A little goes a long way, but it is very popular.

Moisturize your skin properly. Whether you have dry, average, or oily skin doesn’t matter when it comes to moisturizing.  Every person needs to properly moisturize their skin from head to toe.  Check with your dermatologist for recommendations if you have acne or oil problems. Looking to natural butters and oils is a great start.  While there are a ton of quality moisturizers on the market, many find that it is better for their skin and less expensive to use a small amount of coconut oil, olive oil, or Shea butter as an overall moisturizer.

Change your skin and hair products with the seasons. The heat and humidity of the summer often makes our oil glands secrete more.  This means not only our skin, but our hair can become more oily.  As the humidity is stripped from the air in the winter, our skin and hair can easily and quickly dry out.  Check out your daily facial moisturizers, cleansers, body lotions and yes, even your shampoo and conditioner and change to something with a bit more moisturizing element for winter.

Use a humidifier. One of the biggest problems in the winter months is the dry air around us.  Invest in a humidifier and keep it going in your home or office as much as possible.  This will add a bit of moisture to the air in your home and help to hydrate your skin properly.

Increase vitamin intake. Your skin needs things like Calcium, Vitamin E and Omega 3 Fatty Acids to stay healthy and vibrant.  Not only will these things help build your internal immune system and fight off colds, they are great for boosting your skin health.

Avoid super hot water. While the winter months tend to make us want to hop into that steaming hot shower, the extra heat can actually strip our skin of moisture it desperately needs.  Opt for a warm shower and snuggle into a toasty warm terry cloth robe when you get out for added warmth on cool days.

This winter treat your skin with love and follow these tips for proper winter skin care.  Many factors contribute to your overall skin health, and these will only do so much.  Poor nutrition, dehydration, smoking, lack of sleep, and stress can all contribute to dulling of skin.  Make the move to improve your health overall this winter, and not just the outward appearance of your skin.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
