10 ways to introduce the letter I

If you are homeschooling, you know that it can be both fun and challenging to come up with lesson plans for your kids. This series will help you with a collection of recipes, printables, crafts and activities. This week, let’s look at 10 ways to introduce the letter I.

10+ Ways to Introduce the Letter I

Crafts that Teach the Letter I:

I love crafts made from re-purposed items! Make this Inchworm from Toilet Paper tubes from The Preschool Corner at Homeschool Creations.

This Letter I Igloo Craft from Kindergarten and Mooneyisms is pretty cute! While there is no printable for the igloo image, you could easily make one or find one.

Printables to Teach the Letter I:

Preschool Mom has a great collection of Letter I printables from tracing pages to mini-books.

This “Long I Sound” Worksheet from TLS Books is great for teaching early reading.

Fun Letter I Activities:

One thing to do that might be fun is this Ice Cream Taste Test from No Time for Flashcards. You could even make some homemade ice cream to do it!

“Don’t Break the Ice” is a classic game for kids. Wouldn’t it be perfect for incorporating into your Letter I lesson?

Books:

Immi’s Gift by Karin Littlewood

I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff

Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni

Imogene’s Antlers by David Small

Recipes:

What kid doesn’t like Spaghetti? This is a perfect time to make some Italian food! Consider making some homemade noodles, sauces or even some Individual pizzas for lunch.

Make your own ice cream! There are so many great homemade recipes for ice cream out there and some are even dairy free!

More Fun with the Letter I:

This Icy Insects sensory bin  from the Measured Mom is genius! It would be great outside on a hot day or do it inside like she did by adding in icicles!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
