5 Fun Activities Using Toothpicks for Kids

Toothpicks are for more than just picking at teeth. In fact, there are quite a few fun games and activities that can be enjoyed with them as well. Take a look below at 5 fun activities using toothpicks that you need to try. These activities are a great way to pass a rainy day or perfect for when the kiddos are bored. Take a look!

5 Fun Activities Using Toothpicks

1. Gum Drop Architects.
Be architects and build your own structures with gumdrops and toothpicks. Use the gum drops as joints, connecting the toothpicks together. Just press the toothpick into the gumdrop and start building. Build basic shapes, structures, buildings, etc. You can make these as simple or as grand as you wish.

2. Toothpick Trivia.
Color the ends of a toothpick with magic marker. Make some red, some blue, some yellow, and some green. Poke the toothpicks into a piece of foam or play dough so the colorful end is hidden. Have players take turns picking out a toothpick. A red pick will be a math questions, blue will be sports, green is science, and yellow is a wild card. The other players must give a question in this category for the person to answer. The first person to collect each color (by answering the question correctly) wins.

3. How Toothpick Tall are You?
Ask children to guess how many toothpicks tall they are. Have them write their answers down. Then, lay them down and line them up with toothpicks. See how many toothpicks it takes from head to toe. Compare their estimates to the actual number.

4. Toothpick Words.
Paint toothpicks or color them with markers. Then take some craft glue and glue them to a piece of construction paper, creating letters and spelling out words. This is a fun way for children to create their names, favorite quotes, and more.

5. Miniature Trees.
Create miniature trees when you glue crumpled up tissue paper or pom poms to the end of your toothpick. Tuck the trees into fairy gardens, flower pots, dollhouses, or anywhere else you can think of. You can even make mini bouquets using this same technique.

Toothpicks can offer hours of fun, so give these crafts and activities a try! You are sure to come up with some games the kids will enjoy.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
