Beat the heat with these outdoor water activities for kids!

Outdoor Water Activities for Kids to Beat the Heat - Here are some fun and frugal water games to help keep the kids both busy and cool this summer.

Nothing beats the heat of summer like splashing around in the water. Jumping in a pool is surely a ton of fun, but not everyone has access to a swimming pool. Fortunately, there are tons of ways to get wet and have some fun even without a swimming pool. Here are some fun outdoor water activities for kids that will do the trick without having to pay the expensive annual fees of a swim club:

Outdoor Water Activities for Kids to Beat the Heat

Homemade Slip and Slides

When it comes to neighborhood fun, slip and slides are classic ways to have a good time. There are some things you have to consider to make them safe, but other than that they are pretty easy to create and enjoy. Simply gather up some plastic tarps, bubble bath, and a water source and you have the makings of a great ride. Soften the ground in the area you are planning to use with water and remove all rocks or debris. You also might want to consider where you do this because it can ruin a nice lawn.

Lay out the tarp and mix the bubble bath and water. One added bonus of a slip and slide is that your kids get an extra fun bath! Set some reasonable safety rules and you are all set.

Water Balloon Toss

Having a water balloon fight is a great way to spend an afternoon but they don’t do too well with kids. Children get upset and can occasionally get hurt in the melee. Instead, consider having a water balloon toss. This is simply a way to get wet with water balloons without the fight part. Have two kids or a circle of kids play hot potato with the water balloon. Somebody is going to get wet and nobody will get hurt. This is a win/win.

Water Gun Paintball

Your kids might be begging for real paintball but those darn pellets hurt! Water gun paintball is just as fun but without the pain. The guns shoot out colored water and the dyes wash out easily. This is an awesome game to have fun and get wet with. It is kind of like tag with water and colors added in. Gather up a bunch of kids and get the games rolling!

Water Hose Fun

Who doesn’t love getting squirted with the water hose? Kids and a water hose go together like ham and cheese. If your kids are not the responsible types, then simply take control of the hose yourself and get out some frustration. I kid, but squirting your kids with the hose can be ….enjoyable.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money beating the heat this summer. There are several fun water activities for kids that will keep them nice and cool all summer long.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
