This time of year, you will see dates go down in price.  While dates are an acquired taste for some people, for others, this time of year is something to look forward to. One thing’s for sure- there are lots of recipes that use dates in them and they rage from appetizers to desserts and everything in between. If you have never tried a date, they are sweet and kind of taste like caramel.  Because they are so sweet, they are perfect natural sweeteners. They are the fruit of a certain palm tree. Something to know about dates before you dismiss them is that they are high in B vitamins, making them a good source of natural energy. If you are looking to add more of that to your diet, look no further than the date. If you are looking for a raw or dairy-free version of chocolate pudding, give this Raw Chocolate Pudding recipe a try from Eating Vibrantly. It’s sweetened with dates!

If you are feeling extra creative, why not make these Raw Strawberry ‘Twizzlers’ from Nouveau Raw? They are made with date paste as the sweetener.

Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
