Sweet potatoes are incredibly versatile, as you will see in these 15 sweet potato recipes.

Learn how to store sweet potatoes so they stay fresh for up to 6 weeks, and enjoy them in 15 sweet potato recipes for desserts and savory dishes.

Sweet potatoes and autumn kind of go hand in hand. If you are like me, you probably are ready for some crunchy leaves beneath your feet, a cool crisp breeze on your cheeks, and everything that signifies that the brutal summer has come to a close. The wonderful thing about sweet potatoes is they lend themselves to so many different tastes and textures like sweet and savory as well as smooth and chunky. You can substitute sweet potato puree for pumpkin puree in many recipes. They are also a great alternative to traditional potatoes because they are lower in carbohydrates. Here are some tips on how to store sweet potatoes as well as 15 Sweet Potato Recipes.

How to Store Sweet Potatoes

Like other kinds of root vegetables like russet potatoes, sweet potatoes do best in a cool, dark place. They do not last long in the fridge, however. Storing them in the fridge speeds up their decomposition and can change their taste. For optimum storage, store them in the dark at around 50-60 degree temperatures in a container that allows air to circulate. If kept in these conditions, you could get up to 6 weeks storage time.

You can freeze sweet potatoes, but be aware that doing so will mean that they may taste slightly different. Freezing them also means they can only be used in a handful of recipes because it is best to boil and mash them before freezing. They can keep for about 10 or 12 months this way.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
