It’s that time of year when fans of pumpkin spice start squealing with joy. The signs are out announcing the arrival of pumpkin spice lattes, all retailers are filling up with pumpkin spice goodies, and it seems pumpkin is the king of all in the bakery departments of grocery stores. Not everything pumpkin is pumpkin spice, though. While this sweet and savory combination is taking over the world, you may be wondering what else could there be? How can you add the flavor of pumpkin spice to more items in unique ways? Here are 10 Unique Pumpkin Recipes that will inspire you to enjoy the season’s favorite harvest.

Please note that most of these recipes call for pumpkin puree and you can avoid store bought by easily making your own pumpkin puree.  You can also make your own pumpkin pie spice. Also, make sure you try these easy tips for storing pumpkins once it gets cold out.

How to Make Pumpkin Puree

First, cut your pumpkin in half and scrape out the seeds.

Place your pumpkin halves cut side down on a foil-lined baking sheet.

Bake at 375 for 40-45 minutes until the pumpkin can be easily pierced with a fork.

Remove the skin from the pumpkin and puree it using a blender, food processor, or immersion blender.

If you are planning on baking with the puree, place it in a cheesecloth and squeeze out the excess liquid before freezing it.
