The pomegranate is one of those fruits that you almost have to buy in season because when it isn’t in season, it can be quite expensive. It is also one of those fruits that many people don’t know how to properly cut or eat so they stay away from it because they don’t want the hassle. If you are looking to make something with pomegranates and don’t know where to begin getting those sweet little parts out of the fruit or how t0 use them, here are some tips on how to seed a pomegranate quickly as well as 12 Delicious Pomegranate Recipes for you to use them in.
How to Seed a Pomegranate Quickly
There are a lot of methods to getting those sweet juicy seeds out of a pomegranate from using a wooden spoon to just ripping it open and going at it, but I find the best way to do this is with water. To get the seeds out with the water method you will need a bowl of cold water, a pairing knife, and a second bowl to drain into. Simply score the fruit on its ridges, and make a small cut along the top of the fruit to remove the top. Start breaking apart the pomegranate under the water, gently using your thumb to push out the seeds. This must be done under water because it allows the water to ‘help’ you get the seeds out without as much breakage and mess and the seeds will sink, leaving the leftover pulp to float at the top. When that is done, just drain off the water and pulp and you are left with the seeds ready to eat and use in recipes.
