Apple Dip

September2010 155 I had some cream cheese leftover from making cucumber sandwiches and decided to use it to make apple dip. For fun, I decided to put the dip into a bowl made of an apple.

Ingredients:
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
In a small bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla together.

To make the bowl, cut the top off the apple: September2010 149

Use a melon baller, to scoop out the apple: September2010 153The apple that was scooped out will be used to make twice baked sweet potatoes, so no food was wasted when making the apple bowl.

Fill the apple with dip: September2010 156
To keep the sliced apples from browning, place them in a  bowl with 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1 quart of water immediately after cutting. After you are done cutting all of the apple slices, remove them from the water and pat them dry before serving.

That sure does look good. I like the thought of putting the toffee chips in it too!! I guess I shouldn't make it though since Jessica is allergic to apples. Darn!!

Apple dip is one of our all-time favorite (and decadent) splurges. I mix 8 oz of cream cheese with 1/2 cup brown sugar and one bag of Heath toffee chips. It doesn't last long around here even if I'm not eating any more.

I love your apple bowl though – I am going to have to try that next time!

Very cute. I will have to remember this when the apples on my trees are ready next June!!! I may try honey instead of the brown sugar, though–I am always trying to "healthify" things thay way. 🙂

    Thanks for sharing!!

I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget.
