Whip together one of these Fruit, Chia, and Trail Mix Yogurt Cups for a healthy and delicious way to start your morning. They also make a great afternoon snack if you need a quick way to refuel throughout the day.

This Fruit, Chia, and Trail Mix Yogurt Cup is a healthy and delicious way to start your morning. It's also a great snack recipe so you can refuel midday.

This Fruit, Chia, and Trail Mix Yogurt Cup is a food prepared for its healthy benefits just as much as it is for its delicious taste. Here’s why: Over the years I have gotten to know my body pretty well. For instance, I noticed how well my body responds to a lighter breakfast with lots of fresh fruits and grains better than it reacts to a breakfast laden with heavy carbs and processed sugar.  Maybe the simple realization is that I am no longer the young whipper-snapper I once was. And while this is a sobering thought, it is helpful and necessary because as the body ages it needs different stuff or rather higher quality fuel to keep the engine running.

I also noticed my body’s inability to handle lactose products, so armed with this knowledge my morning meal selections have changed significantly to meet my needs. I created this delicious Fruit, Chia and Trail Mix Yogurt Cup and it tastes even better than it looks. It is packed full of good stuff that gives me tons of energy to power through long days of work, work, and more work.

I started with lactose free yogurt, then swirled in some sweet organic maple syrup. Then I added golden berries, blueberries, strawberries, and sliced Granny Smith apples. I gave it a bit of crunch by adding trail mix and dark chocolate covered hemp seeds and chia seeds. This is one of the best yogurt creations I have ever made.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
