We have been eating from the pantry, freezer, and garden for the last couple of weeks. I realized that I had meat in the freezer that was approaching the four month mark and pantry staples that were approaching the six month mark, so it was time to use those items or risk having to toss them. The above picture is a pretty good representation of what I have been buying the last month, which is why I haven’t posted my grocery shopping on Super Savings Saturday for a while ( I am saving a lot only because I am not buying a lot). We needed milk and butter (the butter was on sale for $1.99, I didn’t stock up because it goes on sale here a couple of times a year for .99 and when it does I will buy a lot and freeze it). I stocked up on yogurt because it was on sale for .69 (I like those 2 brands because they are HFCS-free). Everything else was an indulgence (The Kettle chips were not even on sale!). The total for this trip to Raley’s was $37.87. Which is a lot for 3 bags of groceries, but still lower than the $100.00 I allow myself for groceries each week.
Groceries and Menu Plan – Week of July 20th
I have been going to different stores each week based on what we need. I keep a price book of the local stores’ best every day prices, so when I need an item that is not on sale anywhere I know which store will sell that item for the best price. So last week I went to Walmart because I needed cocoa and chocolate chips in addition to milk and bananas. The week before that I did all of my shopping at Trader Joe’s because I was out of gluten free pasta and agave nectar. If you have not kept or read about a price book click here to read The Thrifty Country Woman’s post on the subject (she explains it better than I could).

I love the YOYO idea. I do that once in a while I just never had a name for it.

YOYO means You are On Your Own. I schedule them when I know the leftovers will have started to accumulate and when I won't have a lot of time to cook.

I love brown rice!! What is YOYO dinner?

That is a wonderful way to honor your father! It is also how my husband and I choose to honor our grandfathers. It is a way for their legacy of serving our country to live on.

Sounds like some great meals. I'll be right over! By the way, I checked out your charity and will be sending them a check this month. Sounds like a great charity and I usually give to some type of Veteran's Charity several times a year in honor of my father.
