Hooked On Cookbook Holders with Splash Guard

I have seen many pretty cookbook holders and had toyed with the idea of getting one for years, but always held back for some reason that I did not fully understand. When I spied the below cookbook holder at Walmart ($9.99), I realized what the others were missing: A splash guard! I have many recipes that have been handwritten by friends and family and I love seeing their handwriting as I use their recipes. Since we move so often, using friend’s recipes makes me feel connected. Often the recipe serves as a reminder to give someone a call or send an email.

Before when I cooked using a handwritten recipe card I put it inside a Ziploc bag to protect it from spills, (and I still think that is a frugal way to protect the card), but I couldn’t do that with the old cookbooks that I have. Many of my cookbooks are dotted with remnants of my cooking experiments. However, there are several cookbooks that I would like to preserve as best as I am able. The cookbook pictured below was my Great-Grandmother’s from when she was in finishing school.

I actually do refer to it for some recipes as everything was made from scratch back then!

Evidence that I needed a splash guard:

I have only used this recipe two times! Of course, I did not put this one in a plastic bag because I can easily reprint it, but I would have been sad if this recipe had been handwritten by a friend or relative.

Thanks so much for visiting today. Nearly all our recipes were hand copied by my wife at Ursula's Cooking School. They are – what's the word – pretty skanky now.

I thought that is how recipe books were supposed to be? lol My cards, print outs and books are all 'seasoned' to perfection. It also helps me remember which ones I used before!

I kinda like the spatters in old cookbooks. It helps me tell what recipe were the best. But on the other hand I try never to spatter my own, so everyone will have to figure out which were my favorites. Your lucky to have handwritten recipes from friends and relatives! I wish I had some from my grandmother!

All of my cookbooks and recipes are food splattered. I collect cookbooks and most I have bought are also food splattered and stained.

Our house is fun, we only sometimes have the same thing twice, it has to be one of the best for us to make it again.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
