I normally put a little effort into food planning when I am entertaining. However, when my husband is getting together with the guys, I know that minimal effort is required to satisfy their less than discriminating palates.

How to Fake a Fancy Bean Dip:

Combine 1- 16 ounce can of refried beans and I cup of your favorite salsa. Mix well. Serve with tortilla chips.

So are you going all out this weekend or are you going to cut corners?

I understand what you mean. Sometimes our efforts have to reflect our audience and if they will fully appreciate it. If not, then fake it up. Looks good!

Sometimes I mix beans, salsa, and cheese then heat it to melt the cheese and serve it warm.

Thanks for the casserole tip. You could link to a non-casserole post if you like. Themes are not a requirement.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
